The flat rudder bonito (scientific name: Auxis rochei), also known as the round rudder bonito, is a marine fish belonging to the mackerel family. This fish is found in tropical and temperate waters around the world, and is especially common in the open waters of the Atlantic, Indian and Pacific Oceans.

Characterization:

• exterior condition: The flat ruddered booby has an elongated body that is slightly flattened laterally. The back is darker in color, usually bluish black or dark blue, while the belly is brighter, appearing silvery white. They get their name from the fact that they have a distinct bulge on each side of the base of their tail fin, which looks like a rudder.
• magnitude: The average adult is between 30 and 40 centimeters in length, but can reach a maximum of about 50 centimeters.
• longevity: Flat rudder boobies have a relatively short lifespan of about 3 to 5 years.

Ecological Habits:

• The flat rudder bonito is a fast-swimming fish that prefers to live in warmer waters, usually from the surface to 200 meters deep.
• They are schooling fish and often form large schools.
• As a carnivorous fish, it feeds mainly on small fish, crustaceans and other plankton.

Economic value:

• In some areas, the flat rudder skipjack is used as a food fish, and although it is not as well known as tuna, it is considered a delicacy in some places.
• It is also considered a nutritious food resource due to its rich protein content and healthy fatty acid composition.
• In addition to being a direct food source, the flat ruddered skipjack is often caught as bait for other large fish such as tuna.
